It can be challenging living with herpes. When I was infected, I was already in a long term relationship, so we dealt with it together. Unfortunately, we broke up. Besides trying to recover from the relationship, I also had to deal with the stigma of HSV2. Did I continue being single, or should I take that first step, be honest about my infection, and attempt to find a new partner?

I didn’t feel that a local dating club was right for me, but I’d heard about online dating websites from friends. Many had positive experiences with finding singles. A few got married. Other friends had no success at all. User experience seemed to vary, but I decided to give it a go. After all, I wasn’t going to find anyone sitting on the couch all night.

I decide to try Pof and Match, two sites that are popular with singles. It was a bit of a dilemma on how to present my HSV2 though. I wanted full disclosure, and opted for a matter-of-fact way. I decided to sign up, and create a profile, with “HSV2” at the beginning. Other people with HSV2 would totally get it, and if people didn’t, I invited them to message me to ask.

Some men messaged to let me know that the HSV2 didn’t faze them. They’d been in relationships with other HSV2 women, and never got infected. It was good to know that it wasn’t the stigma that I’d originally imagined.

I was also impressed with the knowledge of many people. Men did their homework. And they asked me intelligent questions.

And then there were the men who had no idea what HSV2 was. So, that was fine, I was able to educate them. And once they realized what it is, they backed off. They would say things like, “I’m sure you’ll find the guy who’s right for you.” Okay, thanks!

All of this communication provided me with encouragement that there are understanding people out there, and that perhaps I shouldn’t stigmatize my virus as badly as I had been. After all, most of us have to cope with some chronic illness, or another, on a daily basis.

I decided that I had to find a better way to meet men who have herpes, like I did. I was surprised to discover that there are actually several dating sites that focus on only HSV1 or HSV2 people. Some are better than others. You’ll need to read through the reviews, and choose which site is right for you.

Herpes dating site are not the only right way to date others with HSV1 or HSV2. But they can help you to get started. Once you start dating again, you’ll realize how much fun you’ve been missing out. There may even be the chance you’ll meet that special someone to spend your life with. Once you’ve set up your online profile, you can try other ways to meet singles like yourself too.
